Copywriting and Communication Strategy
Since the mid-1980s I've made my living with words. After a few years as a technical writer and editor (does anyone remember the Logo computer language for kids? I wrote the manuals!) I moved into copywriting and communication strategy. For a few years I managed the communication department for a tech firm, and in 1996 I founded my own consultancy. For the next quarter century (wow, that makes me feel old) I worked with ad and design agencies, tech companies, resource industries, and government clients across Canada and internationally. I wrote copy for websites, ad campaigns, industrial videos, blogs, podcasts, executive speeches, annual reports, ESG reports, and much much more. I taught technical writing and marketing communications courses at Simon Fraser University, BCIT and Douglas College.
Projects I've worked have won many awards, from the IABC (International Alliance of Business Communicators), the STC (Society for Technical Communication), Applied Arts Magazine and others.
In 2022, I retired from the copywriting trade to concentrate on creative work.
